　　影片改编自土桥章宏的小说《幕末马拉松武士》，以江户时代为背景，讲述为抵御来自外国的威胁、锻炼藩士身心，安中藩藩主下令举办名为“安政远足”的长跑竞赛，也是日本最早的长跑竞赛。但这场活动却阴错阳差地被幕府视为叛乱，于是遣刺客前往没有藩士驻守的安中城，企图收回领土…。
　　由杰瑞米·托马斯(《末代皇帝》)、中泽敏明(《入殓师》)共同企划·制作，伯纳德·罗斯(《安娜·卡列尼娜》)执导，菲利普·格拉斯(《楚门的世界》)担当配乐，和田惠美(《乱》《英雄》)担当服装设计。

影片故事讲述哈莉·贝瑞饰演的母亲发现儿子失踪后，不顾一切地追击绑架了她儿子的绑匪，由此上演了一场追车和打斗好戏。

以朝鲜时代作为背景，讲述了光海君11年间，朝鲜军队帮助明朝反抗满清却遭大败，战争中幸存的3人在随后与追杀的清军展开殊死血战的故事。
